What you do today matters

#33 on prioritisation, overwhem, cheerleaders and community love

Hey 3,050+ friends, it’s Hannah here from Quoted Visually 🤍

Welcome to another issue of Floating Thoughts where I share an insight, image and update. I’m back from my travels and raring to go ⤵︎

I’m writing this on a picnic blanket outside, soaking up some rare British sun, and hoping that no apples from the tree above onto my head… 🤣🌳

Our lives are comprised of days like this…

But when we don’t prioritise what matters, we end up doing things that we don’t mean to do. We blink and years or decades go by 🤯

“Most things which are urgent are not important, and most things which are important are not urgent”

- Dwight Eisenhower

We can’t stop the clock, but we can change HOW we place our 24 chips each day to feel more comfortable with time passing.

One of the Top Five Regrets of Dying from Bronnie Ware’s research is:

“I wish I hadn’t worked so hard”

I don’t interpret this as a reason NOT to strive, work hard or be ambitious.

But as a reminder to make sure that when we strive, that we work on tasks that move the needle and don’t just create ‘busy work’ for ourselves. Work that fools us and those around us into a false sense of productivity.

Are you prioritising what matters today?

🗞️ Update behind the scenes

It’s been a blur adjusting back home since my travels 😅

An overwhelming number of messages and tasks build up when we go away, but it's hard to just pick back up where we left off like nothing ever happened.

The gift of travel is:

  • the exposure to other ways of living

  • the physical distance from our life at home.

Both can enable us to think critically about the way we are living, and spark a whole lot of change in our lives. But it doesn’t all happen at once!

In these moments, we need processing time and grace to get in our groove again and that's what I've been doing.

My scheduled social media posts have also run out - but rather than panic, again, I’m going to take my time. Life has been happening!!

One huge level-up has been moving to hey.com for a streamlined, clutter-free email and calendar. The weight of it all already feels lighter!! 💌

It’s empowering to shed the ‘default tools’, ones that may never served us best in the first place *cough cough* Outlook 🤣

Lastly, I hosted a party to celebrate 2 years of being self-employed and my 27th Birthday - pretty wild if you ask me 🎈

Of course mid-way through the party, we put our drinks down and I took my friends on a country walk!!

As we get older we get ‘busy’ and we see our friends less and less. Some I hadn’t seen since before I started Quoted Visually eep 😳

If I learnt anything from the weekend, it’s to proudly be the one who messages first and reaches out no matter how long it’s been. Others will be thankful to hear from you. We need our communities more than we realise, online and offline.

That’s why it was so special when both Adam Faulkner and Ryan O’Connor went out of their way to be a cheerleader for me this week. Check them out:

I’ll leave you with this quote:

“Community, its heart and soul, is the non-monetary exchange of value; things we do and share because we care for others, and for the good of the place.”

- Dee Hock

That’s a wrap! If you have your eye on a 2025 Quoted Visually calendar, hit reply so I know you are keen …and I’ll be excited to respond with my new email platform 😅

Big love,

P.S. if it tickles your fancy, you can join 60+ ambitious creatives in the Quoting Ideas Visually course and community here.
