Confidence comes through action

#27 on negative self-talk, confidence, sharing our truth and relaunching my course

Hey 2,000+ friends, it’s Hannah here!

What a milestone 🥹 Thank you for putting your faith in me and following the journey. This is just the start! Today, I am trying out a simplified format ⤵︎

1. On negative self-talk

Let’s face it, every so often negative talk creeps up on us and we can start to believe the rubbish we tell ourselves.

We can even get annoyed at ourselves for even thinking this way!

In these moments, the idea of thinking positively just feels like an idealistic surface-level solution to a more deep-rooted problem.

Proposing counterstatements helps, but the only way we gain the skill or the confidence for the thing we are trying to do is BY DOING IT!

“Inaction breeds doubt and fear. Action breeds confidence and courage. If you want to conquer fear, do not sit at home and think about it. Go out and get busy”

- Dale Carnegie

We have to lean in…

The negative thoughts only last so long as we let them last!

Moreover, we realise that the discomfort and head-trash we feel are just part of the process of taking on a challenge. Our mind is trying to keep us safe, we can trust that we are safe.

2. On sharing our truth

A WHOLE year passed before I said YES again to another podcast 🤯

For a long time, I wasn’t in the headspace to share my story and felt as if I could say something that I’d regret, or endorse a lifestyle that I hadn’t quite got to grips with myself yet.

AND, it can be hard to prioritise these engagements as a freelancer because our focus is on income-generating activities and if we are at capacity selling our time, we don’t need more work (unless we have digital products 👀).

BUT, doing podcasts or putting ourselves out there are essential for building relationships and getting our work noticed. We need to give others the chance to get to know us to become invested in our story.

HOWEVER, we should share our truth on a timescale that works for us. Authenticity counts for a lot and it’s okay to wait!

This is an off-the-cuff conversation with a kind-hearted mentor of mine, Rhea Freeman. Let me know if you give it a listen!

We would love to know the parts that you find most interesting. I tend to cringe listening to myself back but my friend said:

“This is so good, Hannah! Currently 10 minutes in and thoroughly enjoying it!” ❤️

3. On Quoted Visually

I relaunched the Quoting Ideas Visually course, after developing and listening to my beta testers, eeeeek 🤭

If you are considering it, for the first 5 spots, I am offering 10% off with the code: EARLYBIRD10

My next focus is to reflect on the long-term plan for spreading the word!

This is all one big experiment, and I am in it for the long game, so there is no rush to have an instant burst of new creatives through the doors 🧫🧪

But, I do have a long laptop-free holiday booked in summer, so the challenge is on. Can I earn whilst I am away?? I’ll keep you posted on that!

In the meantime, I have been taking it slower, baking cakes, enjoying the UK sun, sitting outside with my laptop, and evening walks with my fox terrier 🐾

In my eyes, this is what self-employment is all about, the little things that add up, like being able to soak up the sunshine when it comes.

It’s funny, making time to bake cakes is a good measure that I am in a good place! What would your equivalent activity be? 🤣

That’s a wrap! Feel free to reply to this email if you have any questions, requests or feedback. I will respond at my earliest opportunity.

Big love,
