The power of venting
#35 on active listening, dopamine levels, and a free mini-course in the works!
Hey 3,620+ friends, it’s Hannah here from Quoted Visually 🤍
Welcome if you’re new here!! Don’t know about you, but these weeks are sailing on by for me. Let’s get into today’s visual, insight, inspiration and update.
*an informal chat about the topics mentioned in this issue
"The most basic form of compassion is not alleviating distress. It's acknowledging distress"
Alone a struggle can feel so heavy, but we don't have to carry it alone, nor do people around us.
Yet, when others share their problems with us, it's easy to slip into fixer mode and start suggesting solutions.
Or even feel inadequate for not having any solutions to offer!
The irony is that often they just need to be heard…👂
This hits me! Growing up, I recall chatting to my mum about my struggles. She would reply: “I don’t know what you want me to do”.
And I’d say: “I don’t need you to do anything”.
Venting alone can help lift the lid on the metaphorical jar and create the space that we need to tackle life’s challenges head-on.
Being present is enough.
Do you see yourself as a good listener?
📖 What I’ve been consuming
This podcast episode with TJ Power about dopamine was game-changing for me.
TJ talks about how we can raise the baseline of the ‘feel-good’ chemicals in our brain, and spoiler, opening our phones first thing in the morning can be counterproductive for this, leaving us feeling unsatisfied for the rest of the day 🫠
Hearing about the science is helping is giving me more motivation to develop healthier habits. I also like how TJ emphasises the importance of getting out in nature - it is where we can feel most ‘at home’ ⤵︎
🗞️ Updates behind the scenes
1️⃣ Last month, I had the pleasure of meeting some of the Circle team - the app behind my course and community (affiliate partner link).
What shocked me even more was an unexpected mention in Alexis Teichmiller’s presentation, which was a huge pinch-me moment 🤯
2️⃣ Inspired by this event, I’m going to experiment with opening up a free section of the Quoted Visually Circle community 🤍
My goal is to help ‘existing creatives’ connect and support each other better and help ‘curious creatives’ see if making visuals is for them.
It will include a mini taster course ‘Tap into Visuals’ and that’s what I’m working on now, although it’s turning into more of a slow-burner than quick-sprint 👀
Here is a peak inside:
3️⃣ Aside from this, I’m feeling the squeeze. There is a lot on my plate so I’m being kind to myself and spending less time posting on social media while I prioritise:
✍🏻 freelance projects
🏙️ networking events in London
🗓️ developing the 2025 Quoted Visually Calendars
📚 soaking up Lara Acosta's personal branding course
🤣 Looking (or procrastinating about looking) for a full-time role. Keen to work in a team and optimise for stability to move out of my parent’s house!!
Anyway, nuff about me! I hope you are being kind to yourself too.
P.S. I received a kind course review this weekend. Honestly, it makes me emotional to read such supportive messages like this 🥹
🚨 Before you go, I’d love to know, have you discovered any cool visual artists lately? Feel free to share them. I can feature them in the QV community.
Big love,
